Hypertension (high blood pressure) Individuals with a history of hypertension should consider a face to face consultation with their local doctor in order to obtain a prescription for Meridia. The active ingredient in Meridia, Sibutramine Hydrochloride Monohydrate is known to increase serotonin levels in the brain which help to promote a feeling of satiety or fullness.  However, if the neurotransmitter Serotonin levels rise to high there is the risk of developing  a life threatening "Serotonin Syndrome." Tourettes syndrome (which causes uncontrolled movements and noises). Pregnant, planning to become preganant, or breast feeding.
